Happy Valentine’s Day to print arttherapy.
————————————————————–
First, Valentine’s Day, February 14, is considered in many countries as the feast of lovers. Couples take the opportunity to exchange sweet words and gifts as proofs of love as well as red roses which are the emblem of passion.
February 14 (ad XVI Kalendas Martias) does not correspond to any holiday in Roman religion and has no ancient origin. The Lupercales, faunal festivals, taking place on February 15 cannot be likened to a lovers’ festival, contrary to what some write.
Moreover, the real origin of this holiday is attested to in the fourteenth century in still Catholic Britain, where Valentine’s Day on February 14 was celebrated as a feast for lovers because it was thought that the birds chose this day to pair. Remaining alive in the Anglo-Saxon world, like Halloween, this holiday then spread across the continent in recent times.
