First, the roe deer is a small, agile and very fast animal, with a brownish coat and a rather gray face. In adulthood, it reaches sizes varying according to the individual, from 57 to 67 cm in height at the withers for females and from 62 to 72 cm in height at the withers for males. With a body length of 90-105 cm for females and 105-120 cm long for males. Its weight varies from 10 to 20 kg for females against 15 to 30 kg for males. It can live up to 15 years, but most do not exceed 10 years in the wild. At the same age, the male weighs 2 to 3 kg more than the female. The roe deer undergoes two moults per year, in spring (the coat turns bright red) and in autumn (the coat turns gray-brown), with an earlier moult in the young. In winter, some roe deer have the base of the neck adorned with one or two light spots, called towel .
