First, the fox is a mammal belonging to the Canidae family, it is a carnivore like the dog and the wolf. There are several species. Worldwide, the most common is the red fox.
In the Middle Ages, the red fox was still called “goupil”. He was renamed “fox” following the success of certain fables of the time, and whose hero was a fox named “Renart”. This popular hero therefore gave his name to this animal. There is a fable by Jean de la Fontaine called: The Raven and the Fox.
