The butterfly is the adult form of Lepidoptera, they are characterized by four colored scales. The word “lepidoptera” is broken down in Greek by lepidos which means scale and pteros means wing. The eyes are a good way to identify species. Butterflies with brightly colored wings usually have brown or black undersides or a camouflage pattern.
