Kodama in Japanese 木霊 literally translates to “tree spirit”. He is a yōkai from Japanese folklore. It is a spirit living in a tree, it can have very varied forms. According to legend, the echo that can be heard in the mountains is caused by these yōkais. We find several of them in the movie Princess Mononoke.
