Free image Our Lady of Aparecida.
First, Our Lady of Aparecida or Nossa Senhora da Conceição Aparecida in Portuguese) is a statue of the Virgin Mary, patron saint of Brazil. Her sanctuary is located in Aparecida, in the state of São Paulo, and her feast is celebrated every year on October 12.
Moreover, on October 12, 1492, wishing to pay homage to him by offering him the best of their catches, the fishermen Domingos Garcia, Filipe Pedroso and João Alves cast their nets in the Rio Paraíba do Sul. After several fruitless hours, carried by the current, they arrived at a place called Porto Itaguaçu. There the headless body of a statuette was brought back by the nets. A new launch brought back the head, and the fishermen then understood that it was a statuette of the Virgin Mary. The object was wrapped in a sheet, then the nets launched again, were then brought up gorged with fish.
