First, The Plush Celebration is a serious subject; it is essential that we agree on the choice of words: for some it will be teddy bear day, for others teddy bear day. As far as we are concerned, we have not decided and will therefore let the 2 denominations coexist.

Let’s give Teddy back what’s Teddy’s

We must go back to the beginning of the 20th century and to the President of the United States of America Theodore Roosevelt to find a trace of the celebration of the day of the plush. In the USA, this day still celebrated on September 9 is known as Teddy Bear Day.

In 1902, during a bear hunt from which he returned empty-handed, President Roosevelt had refused to shoot a young bear attached to a leash. This anecdote is at the origin of the affectionate nickname of “Teddy” (Theodore) which is given to teddy bears across the Atlantic.

The stuffed toy has since diversified a lot and has touched the whole animal world, without forgetting that of the heroes, imaginary or real, of our children. So why not a world day dedicated to stuffed animals…
