Firstly, esotericism (from the ancient Greek esôteros, “interior”) is the set of secret teachings reserved for initiates. This term, whose meaning differs significantly depending on the era and the authors, is sometimes used in popular culture to speak of marginal currents of thought with a secret or strange component with a spiritual dimension. The word “esotericism” is of Greek origin and, in antiquity, usually designated teachings reserved for a small number of initiates, especially within the Mysteries, for example the Mysteries of Eleusis.
Moreover, some sectarian movements rely on texts with an esoteric content. The complexity of the subject as well as the diversity of its manifestations lead to study it according to several access routes: etymology, definitions, origins, images, models.
