————————————————————–
The hippie movement is a counter-culture current that emerged in the 1960s in the United States, before spreading to the rest of the Western world. The hippies, drawn largely from the large youth of the post-war baby boom, rejected traditional values, the way of life of their parents’ generation and the consumer society.
Openness to other cultures, a need for emancipation, the search for new sensory perceptions and modified states of consciousness, led them to the artistic expressions of psychedelia. In their communities, they hoped to live freely, in human relationships that they wanted to be more authentic. Breaking with the norms of previous generations, the movement had a major cultural influence, particularly in the musical field. The dissemination of some of the values resulting from this current has accelerated the evolution of mores in Western society as a whole, even if the movement itself has gradually lost its scope.
