First, Sailor Moon is a Japanese media franchise. Including manga, anime, musicals, drama, video games and various derivative products. The majority created by Naoko Takeuchi in 1992.

Each adaptation of the franchise follows the adventures of Usagi Tsukino. A banal and clumsy teenager, who is actually Sailor Moon, a heroine with magical powers. Fighting evil in the name of love and justice, she is joined by many allies, all placed under the protection of a planet in the solar system.

Despite being criticized for its repetitive and uneven storyline, Sailor Moon became a hit series around the world. And she contributes to the revival of the magical girl genre. In 1993, the book won the Kōdansha manga award in the shōjo category while the Japanese cartoon won the Anime Grand Prix in 1992. The latter was released in France in December 1993 and the manga was published two years later by Glénat. At the same time, the series was adapted into several musicals from 1993, then was derived into a Japanese drama in 2003, before being again declined in a cartoon, entitled Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, in July 2014.
