First, mosaics originated in Uruk in Mesopotamia (now Iraq) around 6,000 years ago. Originally, it was made of fired clay cones with a colored base. During antiquity, mosaic was generally used in houses and temples, for interior decoration. Among its uses: mosaic carpet and mosaic doormat.
Become more familiar since the discovery of Roman sites like Pompeii or Herculaneum. The mosaic was used throughout the Middle Ages, especially among the Byzantines, but also by the Greeks and Romans during the Renaissance.
