A deer is an agile and fast animal, it has brownish and/or gray coat. In adulthood, its sizes vary according to individuals, between 57 and 72 cm in height at the withers. Its weight varies from 10 to 30 kg. Its longevity is 15 years, but the majority do not exceed 10 years in the wild. It is considered, by its size, as the smallest native deer in Europe.

The coat of the fawn is spotted for two months, these spots are aligned. The roe deer undergoes two moults per year, in spring (the coat turns bright red) and in autumn (the coat turns grey-brown). In winter, some roe deer have the base of the neck decorated with one or two light spots, called towel.
