Sugar skulls “calavera” are used mainly during the Day of the Dead. It is mainly found in the form of political or satirical caricatures, it represents a humanoid skull. Usually used as an offering to a dead person or as a gift to a loved one. These practices are more common among Mexicans, who celebrate their dead.
Custom dictates that the calavera rests on a flat surface and shows only the face. When it bears the name of the deceased whom the family watches over, it is intended to feed him on this Day of the Dead. For the individual who makes it, the offering takes on its meaning if he thinks that, on that day, the deceased is wandering on Earth.
