Free coloring, summer butterflies.
Lepidoptera, in the adult form (butterfly), are characterized by two pairs of membranous wings covered with colored scales, which are flattened bristles; the word “lepidoptera” comes from this characteristic: lepidos means “scale” in Greek and pteros, “wing”.
The ocelli or eyes can be defensive ornaments (in the Peacock for example), it is a good way of recognizing the species (like the orange ocellus centered in black on the forewing of the Little marsh bird, absent in the Great Changing March).
The brown or black reverse of its wings often presents a homochrome livery which makes it possible to hide with many species presenting bright colors on the front of their wings (Peacock of the day for example).
